Hex-Rays Completes Acquisition of HexAI to Expand Its Agentic Platform Offering for Cybersecurity Research

HexAI's team joins Hex-Rays, the company behind IDA Pro, to bring IDA technology into its agentic security research platform.

LIÈGE, Belgium — October 22, 2026 — Hex-Rays, the company behind IDA Pro, has completed its acquisition of HexAI, a company building AI agents and models for deep malware analysis, vulnerability research and red teaming. HexAI's team is now fully integrated into Hex-Rays and is working alongside Hex-Rays' engineers to further develop the agentic platform for cybersecurity research, with a full unveiling planned in the coming months.

HexAI was founded in 2025 by Elon Gliksberg and later joined by CTO Amit Schendel.

"Security research is moving toward a model in which AI agents take on a growing share of the work. HexAI had already built visionary technology for that future, and bringing their team together with ours lets us move faster than either of us could alone," said Philippe-Alexandre Leroux, CEO of Hex-Rays.

What’s coming in the joint platform

The joint platform will give security researchers a structured way to put AI agents to work. Instead of relying on general-purpose agents working on their own, researchers will build and run agent workflows tailored to their research goals, measure how those workflows perform, and validate each finding.

  • Broad coverage: it helps human experts analyze binaries to find vulnerabilities, zero-days, malware, backdoors, and to support red teaming operations.
  • Benchmarked workflows: it comes with ready-made research workflows that are tested against benchmarks, plus workflows that improve other workflows over time without manual tuning. It optimizes for costs, processing time, and output quality.
  • Built for scale: it’s designed for large-scale research and uses AI model resources efficiently.
  • Model-agnostic: it isn’t tied to any one AI model, so organizations can use the models that meet their requirements. It can also use home-grown models for specific missions.
  • Deployable anywhere: it can run in air-gapped environments, cut off from external networks.
  • State-of-the-art cybersecurity engines: it ships with engines that deliver deterministic, high-performance, token-free capabilities such as disassembly, decompilation, deobfuscation, binary similarity, binary diffing, semantic analysis, unpacking, emulation, and many more.
  • Proprietary and community datasets: it ships with datasets that users can enrich with their own binaries, databases, reports, findings, and organizational knowledge, allowing both humans and AI agents to build on prior work.
  • Human–agent collaboration: it helps humans seamlessly collaborate with other humans as well as agents.

The HexAI platform is already in use by government and commercial organizations worldwide, which report improvements in both the quality and quantity of their security findings, alongside substantial reductions in AI model costs.

Uniting agentic research and reverse engineering expertise

The former HexAI team is now Hex-Rays employees, working as part of a single, unified engineering and product organization. The team remains focused on the agentic platform and is working closely with Hex-Rays' other engineering teams to integrate IDA technology into it — combining agent-driven research with the decades of reverse engineering expertise behind IDA Pro to take the platform to the next level.

"Generic agents operating on their own can be expensive, and their findings may at times be unreliable or incomplete. We built our platform so researchers can focus on what they want to research, measure performance, and trust what they find. Bringing IDA's technology into the platform takes that somewhere we couldn't have reached on our own," said Elon Gliksberg, founder of HexAI.

Continuity for existing HexAI customers

Existing HexAI customers will continue to receive the same service, including air-gapped deployment and model flexibility, now backed by Hex-Rays. Customers will be contacted directly regarding any next steps.
