Hex-Rays builds the industry-standard reverse-engineering and binary-analysis technology relied on by security researchers, malware analysts, software vendors, and government teams worldwide. Our tools set the benchmark in the cybersecurity field, and we keep pushing it forward to redefine the boundaries of reverse engineering technology.

We're looking for an R&D Engineer to design and build AI agents for security research. You'll work at the intersection of AI and offensive security in a small, senior team, combining practical security experience with strong engineering judgment to turn complex, open-ended problems into working solutions.

Experience with AI agents and large language models is valuable, but we're equally interested in strong security engineers with clear aptitude and real enthusiasm for this work. AI is central to the role, not an optional extra.

What you'll do

  • Design and build AI agents for security research.
  • Bring hands-on security expertise to the team's engineering approach and technical decisions.
  • Develop and improve the software and tooling that support this work.
  • Evaluate results critically, identify limitations, and improve quality and reliability.
  • Own complex, open-ended problems end to end, from first experiment to working solution.

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on cybersecurity experience in security research or offensive security, such as reverse engineering, vulnerability research, or exploit development.
  • Experience with AI agents and LLMs, or clear aptitude and strong enthusiasm for working with them: prompting, tool use, orchestration, and evaluating and improving agent output.
  • Strong engineering ability and sound technical judgment. We care about how you think and build, not which programming languages you already know.
  • A practical approach to hard, ambiguous problems. You work out what matters and build something that works.
  • Independence and effectiveness in a small, senior team. You take ownership of your work while moving shared goals forward.

Nice to have

  • Deeper experience building agentic or LLM systems, including multi-agent setups, tool-calling frameworks, and evaluations.
  • A strong exploit-development background and a public track record, such as CVEs, CTF achievements, talks, technical write-ups, or tools.
  • Deep reverse-engineering experience with IDA or similar tools, and confidence working in disassembly and decompiled code.
  • Specialist knowledge of kernels, browsers, mobile/Android, or firmware and embedded systems.
  • Relevant technical experience in Israeli intelligence technology units, such as 8200 or 81, or the Ministry of Defense.

The ideal candidate

You combine a researcher's persistence with an engineer's judgment. You're comfortable exploring unfamiliar systems, testing assumptions, and checking that results hold up in practice.

Why join Hex-Rays?

  • Join the company behind IDA Pro, the reverse-engineering platform trusted by security professionals worldwide.
  • Work at the frontier of AI and security research, on problems where the answers haven't been written yet.
  • Build alongside a small, senior R&D team, with real ownership and a direct say in what we build.
  • Help shape how the next generation of security research gets done.

Your experience is valued with an attractive compensation package.
